CHARACTER INFO
Character Name: Goro Akechi ❝Crow❞
Age: 18
Canon: Persona 5
World Description: Wiki
History: Wiki
Death: Akechi ran into the Phantom Thieves of Heart in Shido's palace and had a fight after shedding some light on who he really was and what he could do. After their fight, Shido's cognitive version of himself came to kill him while he was weak. Knowing that if they interfered they would die, he shot the partition between himself and the others. Right before his death, he made a deal to put an end to Shido's reign.
What are your plans for this character in-game? More than anything, I'd really love for Akechi to grow from the experience; especially after realizing that everything he's done in his life was all for nothing in the end. He'll probably have a hard time adjusting at first due to circumstances, but I'd like to see him slowly get better and finally live for himself and not to simply fit the mold of what others want out of him.
What aspects of this game and/or its setting are you most interested in having this character engage with? I'm still trying to get a feel for how the game would run, but it seems like a good setting for him to grow as a person as well as to use his detective skills with the exploration aspects of the game. I'm excited to see what would happen and how he would handle things differently after his death.
How does your character generally get along with other people? Akechi is pretty charismatic when it comes to the public and people he hardly knows. He's lived his entire life behind a mask to be accepted by somebody due to his upbringing and family problems. He's done this for so long that he probably has no idea what it's like to be 100% himself anymore after living a lie for so long.
Once he gets close enough to someone -- which is a new experience for him since he's never really had any friends or proper support in his life -- he'll more than likely be a lot more awkward is situations and won't know how to deal with things. He'll probably try to hide behind the mask he's worn for so long in those situations, but I'm excited to see how everything will pan out with future CR.
What is your character's mental state upon entering the game? Horrible. He's built his entire life for the sole purpose of gaining Shido's trust, just to get revenge. In the end, he failed and died before being able to complete his life-long goal after realizing that even he can make mistakes when it comes to observations. Everything he's built up on for his goal (I.E. his fame, popularity, charisma, grades, and skill set) had been for nothing. Once news gets out, he's aware that the public will realize he's a fraud and there his popularity and credibility will be at risk. He'll be treated as a villain while the others will come out the heroes instead.
Realizing that not just part of your life, but you're entire life, has been for nothing will be a lot for him to take in. How do you be yourself when you don't know what you really want or how much of that was part of an alter ego that you put on? In the beginning, he will be extremely irritable with how things turned out. If anyone from his world shows up, he'll be unsure of how to handle dealing with them; Should he be happy to see them or hate them for ruining his plans?
He'll probably keep to himself for the most part at first and slowly get better; Although he's likely to fall back into the "Second Detective Prince" role that he's used to out of habit in sticky situations.
Skills/Abilities: Akechi's Metaverse ability that's attached to Loki is the ability to cause Mental Shutdowns, which is a big focus point in the game plotline. He's able to make shadows and people go insane or simply lose their minds (I.E. the subway driver, SUI director, ect.). Because such a thing would be way too overpowered here (and depends on being able to use his Persona(s)) I don't intend on using that ability here.
Otherwise if we look into Robin Hood's Persona abilities, they deal with bless damage to play off of his "justice" and ideals, but beyond some of his magic, there's nothing all that particular to take from it. If nothing else, he'd be able to use his bless skills and abilities. Any abilities from the Metaverse would rely on if Personas still worked the same here as well. There is also the matter of if he would even still have access to the Metaverse or the Meta Nav app on his phone.
Persona skills aside, Akechi is very intuitive and good at finding out things that some people might have troubles with. One of the things he'd always kept up were his grades and studying, even if he did miss a lot of school. It was all to add credibility to being an ace detective to fuel his end goal. It's even stated after his fight with the Phantom Thieves that he's stronger than most of them. Makoto stated that the only reason they won in the end was because they had to team up to take him down. Living alone without friends or proper support had its negatives, but it's surely made his power grow exponentially.
Flaws/Weaknesses: Akechi is pretty strong and very intelligent, but like most people, he has a few flaws and weaknesses to take into account. The main one to keep in mind is the fact that Shido discarded him and his mother killed herself while he was young. This plays a huge part in his personality as well as his life direction. He was so hell-bent on revenge that nothing else mattered to him.
As a result of not having any proper support from family or those around him, he's always been on his own to deal with problems. As such, he's even come to discard the idea of having friends, as his fight with the others revealed when they tried to convince him to work together; They all wanted the same goal, just not in the same way. He's always had fans ever since he began to grow more popular as a detective prince, but he's never actually gotten close to anyone over all.
With no proper support in his life, he's never really had someone there to help him through all the hard times in his life in a healthy matter. When you don't have proper guidance, it's easy to go down the wrong path even if you have good intentions or reasons to act the way you do. Futaba is a good example of how having the proper guidance and support could make a huge difference in your life.
Living his life to become someone who people wanted to have around them and not who he really was deep down inside also shows that he's gotten so used to repressing how he really feels. Having that stripped from you makes it hard to know where to start when you're getting back on your feet. He desperately wants to be loved by others and will do anything to make people want him around, even if it means acting a certain way to meet the expectations people have of him.
Though it's not really a phobia, during the school festival you find out that Akechi is not good with spicy food. The obvious weaknesses would be related to his Persona, Robin Hood. Robin Hood is weak to Curse. Loki isn't particularly weak to anything.
Personality: Over the course of this application, I've briefly discussed a variety of personality traits that he has. Here's a general summary with some other personality traits that haven't been covered yet.
Akechi is highly intelligent and an honor student despite missing school a good amount due to his detective work and interviews. Overall he seems to be a pretty likeable, charismatic guy that makes him very popular with the public. We know these characteristics of his are due to his wish to be accepted, thus taking on an alter ego to make sure that others want him around. He plays a very well thought out role of a detective who only desires to find out the truth behind the Mental Shutdowns. Whomever is responsible for this -- be it a single person or a group of Phantom Thieves -- should be brought in to justice in the legal system.
Too bad that alter ego of his is nothing like his own desires. He has his own ulterior motives that involves taking down his father, Masayoshi Shido, once he reaches the pinnacle of his career; all to tear it all down in revenge. Having never gotten close to anyone in particular, he doesn't seem to care at all that he's killed many lives (even if they were shitty adults). He only cares about his own agenda and motives and if it doesn't suit his needs, there's no reason to stick his neck out to help another person out of "kindness".
All that matters to him is that he can meet his goals. The how of the course of events doesn't matter to him. He's not afraid to use violence, so as long as he isn't tracked to the crime. He's a guarded, manipulative person who's let his jealousy and anger get the best of him.
"Friends" only get in the way and are much more of a nuisance than they are pleasant to be around. He doesn't need anyone else in his life, or so he believes. Behind those walls that he puts up, he's emotionally stunted and resentful to those who can manage to have less success than him, but yet be able to still get so much support.
If nothing else, he's at least extremely resilient when it comes down to getting one step closer to his goal. He'll fight to the end to see his goal come to fruition. He'd already been working as a "detective" for two years now with the use of his abilities. His persistence wasn't over a course of months or a year, but many years and plans in the making. The Phantom Thieves becoming so popular really put a dent in his plans.
Items: He'll have his smart phone with the Meta Nav app on it (unless it removed for some reason by the game or Yaldabaoth). He'll also probably appear in his black rebel outfit, torn up and mask partly broken. If at all possible, I'd also like to be able to have his white and red rebel outfit; If I cannot, that'll be okay. It would just be a nice addition if I could.
